What is an Okapi?

Okapis have dark backs, with horizontal white stripes on the front and back legs. They have long (1 foot), flexible, blue tongues that they use to strip leaves and buds from trees. Male okapis have short horns called "ossicones". They have large ears, which help them detect their predator, the leopard. Okapis are about 8 ft long and six and a half high at the shoulder. Their weight ranges 465-565 pounds. Okapis are very Independent, coming together only to breed. They are not social animals and prefer to live in large, secluded areas. Okapis have several methods of communicating their territory, including scent glands on each foot that leave behind a tar-like substance which signals their passage, as well as urine marking. Males are protective of their territory, but allow females to pass through to forage.
Okapis are herbivores, eating tree leaves and buds, grass, ferns, fruit, and fungi. Many of the plant species fed upon by the okapi are poisonous to humans.

What's Okapi Oasis About?

Okapi Oasis is the internet's first every okapi sim, focused on the endangered okapi! When you first join okapi oasis, you are allowed to buy a max of 6 okapis. Ever. At all. This is because in real life, okapi do not live in herds.
When you first get an okapi, he is bored, tired, hungry, just.. a wreak. You must care for this poor thing! Every day. If you neglect an okapi and it's health bar is 0% for 10 days in a row, your okapi gets released.
All your okapis appear in your territory. When you begin, you start with one exhibit and 1 acre. There can be 3 acres to an exhibit. You can manage your exhibits, like their name, which okapi are in each, etc.
You need to maintain and keep watch of your okapi's health. Each week you need to get a check-up for your okapi. Each day, you must check your okapi's health sheet for any diseases. There are 5 diseases. Parasites, Broken Legs, Food Poisoning, Cancer, and Pnenomina. Each disease has a specific cure you need to apply for your okapi to be healthy. All your okapis appear in your territory.
How does okapi oasis sound so far? Completely boring?! Yes?! 8D Well of course it does! I'm sure your asking.. "What else could you do with an okapi?"
When your okapi reaches 10, it is allowed to start training. \"Training... okapi? What?!\" Yes. Okapi Training. Your okapi begins training in the 'clueless' status, and once trained, will outcome a 'mastermind'. Everyday you enter your okapi in so many 'sessions' of training. Every session is 5 minutes. Non-upgraded accounts can enter 24 sessions each day (2 hours) upgraded accounts may enter 36 sessions each day (3 hours).
Your territory is split into three sections. A training section, where okapis are placed when in training. A zoo section, where after okapis are trained, they are placed. In the zoo section, you still must feed, etc., your okapi. But, unlike the training section, you get paid for your okapi to be in the zoo. Everyday you can collect fee's from your territory page. Your money accounts on your okapis health, age, and stats.
The next section is the breeding section! If your okapi is trained, it can breed with another okapi! Your okapi will have one calf per breeding. But, you can only breed twice in your okapi's life.
If at anytime you don't want your okapi, you can always release it. Then, it will go in your 'released okapi' section. When your okapi reaches 120, it passes on, but can always be remembered in the 'passed' section.

December 21, 2008 ;; Update!

It may seem like nothing has been updated recently; but a lot has been going on! We've recently put up this layout as an improvement to our old one, out coder has finished the health sheets, which is a major aspect on the game.
Seeing our coder and I are both on a break from school; we will get a lot of coding finished, such as the news comments, check ups, releasing, mod reports, parasite reports, and much more!
But, we need your help! With more coding comes more coding expenses; so that means we are in need of donations and account purchases! The more you help us out, the quicker we can open! So donate to okapi-oasis today! Thanks you guys for all the support, it means so much!
